Matthew Gardner-Brown died on April 2nd
2000 aged 24 following a car accident on April 1st. Because Matthew
had sustained fairly minor injuries, it was especially important to us that
something positive could come out of his death. Matt had lived half of his
life in Spain, most of that half in Javea. He attended the Instituto and then
worked with his father, David. The M.G.B. Memorial Fund was set up on the day
of his funeral and due to his popularity with both the ‘expat’ and the Spanish
community; a considerable sum was donated, and in fact continues to be
donated.
We searched for a charity which would reflect
Matt's zest for life and one which he would have approved of. He did not
believe in organised charities where admin costs eat away most of the funds
donated, so when two friends came up with the idea of Dreamflight we could
hear Matt saying 'YES!!!'
With Dreamflight there are no admin. costs. All the
funds raised are used for one specific purpose - to bring ten days of
happiness to some seriously ill children……
In it's first year, due to fund-raising and
donations in Matt's memory, we were able to send 1.000.000 ptas to Dreamflight,
which enabled two seriously ill children, Sam and Mikalai, to have a holiday
of a life time and up to the present day seventeen other children have
benefitted from this wonderful experience.
The MGB Foundation is now a registered
charity in Spain, enabling us to support Dreamflight and many other
local children's charities.
